The Evergreen Park Village Hall was originally
designed in the 1950's to house the Village Administration, the Council
Chamber, and the Police and Fire Departments. Over the years, an
addition had been made to the Police Department portion of the building,
and the Fire Department had moved out. The Village wanted to
expand the administration function into the now vacant Fire Department
area, including the addition of a second floor over the former Fire
Apparatus Bay, and redesign the exterior of the building to highlight
the public entrance to tie the overall appearance
of the building together.
The exterior of the existing building had two types of natural stone
and 5 different types of facebrick. The existing entrance was
centrally located in the building, but remote from the new parking lot.
A entry tower was added adjacent to the parking lot to highlight the
public entrance. The Police entrance was kept, and the previous
administration entry was used for the council entry. The exterior
of the building was covered with a plaster system to help tie the complex
visually together, since none of the existing facebrick was available.
