The City of Palos Heights Police Department had outgrown their existing
facility. A study was prepared to evaluate if an addition or new
facility was needed. This study included possible expansion to the
City's spaces. The study showed a freestanding Police Station
on the grounds of the existing Village Center was the solution. The remaining space
on the site of the City's complex was very tight for the building's
requested program requirements. With efficient design, the program
requirements of the police department were met.
The new facility's main floor houses the general administration with the
crime operations, cells, investigation, interview rooms, and reports.
The second floor has community services and general operation, e.g.,
community services, DARE, roll call, lunchroom, exercise and locker
rooms.
The tight site constraints dictated the footprint of the building be a
rectangle. Use of strong angled corners with full height windows
and stone sunscreens with stone bands running around the building were
used to breakup the long facebrick walls and bring light to the interior
spaces. |
