The Walter E. Smithe Store in Oak Brook was a renovation of an abandoned
(36,000 SF) Sears HomeLife Store. The existing building had an unusual
footprint (due to the site geometry), and was almost completely
windowless. The scope of this renovation included gutting the
entire interior, adding windows along the perimeter of the building, and
removing a large portion of the second floor & roof to allow for a skylight /
monumental two-story stair atrium. |
